Working together, South Carolina Legal Services (SCLS) attorneys, addiction counselors and healthcare providers can offer a more holistic approach to those with opioid addiction. Through collaboration, we can not only address the consequences of opioid addiction and overdose, such as family law issues, unemployment, housing, healthcare, elderly issues and more but also promote stability, recovery, and independence for those affected.
SCLS is a statewide law firm that provides civil legal services to protect the rights and represent the interests of low income South Carolinians.
SCLS has these primary goals for a future partnership:
- Educating public health officials and treatment providers about the legal obstacles patients face in obtaining and remaining in treatment.
- Engaging with public health officials and treatment providers to promote a comprehensive model of recovery that includes SCLS attorneys as resources for individuals and families affected by the opioid epidemic; and
- Providing a forum for study and discussion of potential best practices for engaging SCLS attorneys in the recovery process, and identifying and making recommendations to promote such practices.
